About Sonder

What does Sonder mean?

Sonder is the realization that each person you pass on the street, sit next to on the train, or glimpse through a window is living a life as vivid and complex as your own—filled with their own ambitions, heartbreaks, routines, relationships, and inherited struggles. It's the recognition that every human carries an intricate inner world that continues unfolding in ways we'll never fully witness.

This word captures something we've all felt but rarely have language for: that moment when you suddenly grasp the profound depth of another person's existence. It's a reminder that complexity and richness exist within every human being, often hidden beneath the surface of what we show the world.

Whom would I meet with?

Sonder was chosen as the name for this practice because it captures what I believe makes therapy actually work: being seen for who you really are, not just the version you've learned to present.

Most people show up to therapy feeling like they're too much or not enough—too complicated, too broken, too far gone. They've spent years white-knuckling through life, managing symptoms, or trying to make sense of experiences that don't fit into neat categories. But here's what I've learned working with trauma survivors, couples on the edge, first responders, and people who just feel stuck: your complexity isn't the problem. It's the path forward.

Your layers, your contradictions, the parts of you that don't seem to make sense—they all have a purpose. They're part of a story that deserves to be understood, not rushed past or explained away. And when you finally feel recognized in your fullness, something shifts. Healing stops being about fixing yourself and starts being about coming home to who you actually are.

I don't do surface-level. I'm not here to hand you coping skills and send you on your way. I'm here to help you understand what's really going on, honor the parts of you that have been working overtime to keep you safe, and reconnect you with the strength you already have. At Sonder, your full story matters—the messy parts, the hard parts, all of it. The goal isn't to become simpler. It's to become more fully yourself.
