Shannon Dohn, MA, LPC

I believe everyone deserves a safe space to be fully seen and understood. Growing up in a complex family system where healthy communication wasn't always present taught me firsthand how powerful it is when someone creates room for your story—all of it, even the messy parts. That early experience, combined with navigating life-threatening health challenges at birth, shaped my deep conviction: life is precious, and we all deserve to live it fully connected to ourselves and others.

My journey to becoming a therapist took some interesting turns. While earning my degree in Human Development at UGA, I drove buses around campus—

a job that let me meet thousands of people and create small moments of warmth through music and conversation. After graduation, I spent a collective year in East Africa working in community development with families and university students, facilitating conversations around health, wellness, spirituality, and connection. What drew me back again and again wasn't just the

beauty of a different culture, but the relational priority and resilient joy I witnessed in communities facing significant challenges. Those experiences deepened my understanding of what it means to truly show up for one another.

Today, I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor specializing in trauma, with particular focus on supporting first responders—a population close to my heart given the firefighters, veterans, and physicians in my own family. I'm drawn to their sacrifice in being safe spaces for others, and I consider it a privilege to offer them the same support they provide their communities. I work with adults and couples using Emotion Focused Therapy, Somatic Experiencing, Internal Family Systems, and EMDR to help people understand why they do what they do and develop genuine compassion for the parts of themselves.

A Bit About Me

I recharge by walking with Dunkin, my Bernedoodle therapy-dog-in-training, two to three times a day. I'm currently taking painting classes at Spruill Center for the Arts and love sitting outside with a good cup of chai. I'm competitive at game nights, enjoy dancing, trying new restaurants around Atlanta, and have a serious donut habit—Sublime Donuts and their late-night hours got me through my counseling internship year. I'm drawn to noticing the small details in everyday life and believe in making the most of both meaningful moments and simple pleasures.
